Description
Brighton Media Centre was built in the 1930s, previously being occupied by the Law Society. The building now contains multimedia aspects to provide a complete package in one building to include television and radio. The building is primarily a steel structured frame with concrete structures to create floors and soffits with brick and rendererd facework to the rear and side elevations and re-claimes stone to the front elevation.
Project

Refurbishment externally and internally of complete building comprising of basement, 1st, 2nd, 3rd floors and roof levels. The works consisted of complete strip out of the existing internal structure of the building to include wiring, ceilings, plumbing etc, and to re-install complete mechanical/eletrical installation to include fire alarm systems, security alarm systems and data net cabling. Trunking to all floors and individual suites. The contract also consisted of complete removal of existing metal fram crittal windows and to supply and install double glazed aluminium powder coated glazing and frames to all areas. To remove existing steel fire escape situated at the rear of the property and to supply and install new galvanised fire escape to structural engineers calculations and building control requirements. The works also consisted of stone repairs and steel treatment repair to various areas.

The contract also consisted of complete external and internal redecorations and refurbishments to include vinyl flooring to staircase, landings and lobbies. New carpets to office areas which were constructed of metal studding and plasterboard finsihed with 600 x 600 Fisher grid suspended ceilings. A number of areas constructed by ourselves required sound proofing for edit suites and cinema. The existing lift was refurbished completely and the existing surrounding cage received complete covering of aluminium sheeting, powder coated to enclose lift shaft. Within the contract the existing asphalt roof covering was repaired upon which it received 50mm insulation, cut to falls with Chester felt, three layer system which also provided a ten year manufacturer's guarantee. The contract took 19 weeks to complete and the building was officially opened by Mr Michael Hessletine.
